Question:
Editing AVCHD (.mts) footage on Sony Vegas Pro 8.0?
2009-10-11 16:59:54 UTC
I have a Canon VIXIA HF200 which produces .mts files. I transfer footage to my computer via the USB cable, and when I want to edit for Youtube and the like, I use Sony Vegas Pro 8. The problem is: I have a Quad Core CPU and an NVIDIA Geforce GTX 280 video card, and I STILL experience lagginess, and most importantly, errors, when working with my Canon's AVCHD footage on Sony Vegas Pro 8. If I have 2-3 files I can usually edit and then render, BUT if I have 5+ clips imported and edited, there's a high risk of an error occurring (the one I get is "An exception has occurred"). It doesn't matter if I save my project frequently because if I open it up I keep getting fatal errors.

I continue to get errors when working with many clips of AVCHD (.mts) files on SVP 8. I want to be able to import as many clips as I want and edit as much as I want without having to worry about the program crashing. What gives? Do I have a dysfunctional copy of the program?

This happened to me and I discovered a way to solve it.

I too edit MTS files with Sony Vegas Pro 8 on a Quad PC.

It worked smoothly until lately I had this laggy problem.

I just defragged my drive and editing is smooth again.

Try it. :)

Most of my friends feeback that Sony Vegas can not support AVCHD files directly. After several days' testing by myself, I find that Pavtube MTS Converter can help import AVCHD files to Sony Vegas Pro for editing. The user just convert MTS to MP4 or other format compatible with Sony Vegas.

Any users can get this powerful software here:

Many people are having this problem, what CPU are you using, quad core means nothing, how much ram you will need minimum 16gb I use 24gb and still suffer a little lag on long video's to use that much ram you need a motherboard to take it, not that many do, also 64bit O/S

as long as you have at least 6gb then you could try a little prog, it kills any un needed progs running, remove from Internet as it may kill your virus guard.

Otherwise you need to get your credit card out and spend some serious money.

Good luck

AVCHD in .mts file belongs to High Definition video, maybe your Sony Vegas doesn't support it.

Sony Vegas likes WMV, MPG, MP4, MOV, so try to change your .MTS files into any one of those video types with AVCHD Video Converter, you can check it out here:

Hope it works for you.

AVCHD was written by Sony so yes it does support editing and blu-ray burning.
