I record hours of footage every week, and that normally comes out to about 10 gigs of footage a week. I need a safe way to store the footage. I have everything i film backed up on a second hard drive, but i know they are unreliable. I lost a load of data on one before. I was thinking, what is the best way to store HD digital footage? I would compress the files into a .ZIP file to save some space but they only go down in size by 4%.

HDV/Mini DV tape. You can put 2 hours on them without any quality loss.

For storage you can use WinRAR. That compresses files down by huge amounts and you can even compress .zip files. Also you can consider installing a second Hard Drive in your computer and using that for storage (It's what I do) along with your external hard drive. Another way to store things would be to burn them onto DVD's and label them. It is more involved when you want to transfer things but it still works out.
