I would use a firewire, for most digital video cameras now days have a firewire port, and just put into your video editing, et. program. With the PC, you may have Adobe Premier, or with mac, you might have iMOVIE, iDVD, or After Effects, etc. Quicktime is for use afterwords, also the new flash will take video, any number of proggies will. Try amazon, Egghead, Apple, etc. you'll find something that fits you and your budget and good luck they'res a lot of stuff out they're but the FIREWIRE IS KING for quick Vid transfer and the like. You'll be fine. Now, if you mean you wish to take vidoes that are already on cassette, they're are transfer protocols you can use. you may IM me or email anytime, explain your total sitch and I'll get your straight COOL? I do this all the time with people JUST as nervous as you and YOU're NOT dopey, stop even thinking that..right? This is new stuff and as I'm writing it's changing so dont' be so hard on yourself, it's NOT as hard at all as it sounds and with the effects MANY very cheap vid proggies have you can add titles, special effects, you'd be shocked at what you can do, this year just to be different I sent out EVERYONE a personalised (to the extent I had the time) DVD with video on it...for me uncle who is NOT a BUsh fan, I exploded him REAL good at the end...I showed my goofy cousin how to make a perfect black and tan, I mean it was a BLAST and if you learn it (and it's NOT hard dear, it will be a blast for you, it sure makes regular Christmas cards seem lame,m becuase think about it..you're taking memories, restoring them, and you can have a TON of fun doing it...cool? coo., I'd wish you good luck but you don't need it...just tell me what you're moving to what...ie. from a vidoe camera? is it digital, if not that's not a prob either...from a VCR??? it's all good don't fret.. IT is going to BE OKAY...(sound like stuart smalley here)
