I just recently got the flip with ultraHD and i used it to film for my youtube videos. Now I just need a good video/movie editor that can take MP4 because Windows Movie Maker didn't take it.

I'm looking to be able to insert audio, adding effects, and adding texts.

Im looking for the FREE editors right now.

Suggestions on good editors that I can buy would be nice too.

Stick with WMM (Windows Movie Maker), don't get any of the programs that the other answeres suggested because most of them aren't free. You can import .mp4 files into WMM, but in order to do this you need to trick the program.

The first thing you need to do is make sure you can play .mp4 files properly, if you can't then I recommend you get the K-lite Mega Codec Pack. You can get it here.

http://www.free-codecs.com/download/k_lite_Mega_codec_pack.htm

Now in order to import the .mp4 file into WMM your going to need to rename the file extension from .mp4 to .avi. So for example if your file was called Hello.mp4 rename it to Hello.avi. The reason this works is because .avi is a supported file type by WMM which works well with tricking the program.

If you can't see file extensions, (.avi .mp4 etc) then follow the steps below to show them.

1. Click start

2. Click control panel

3. Select the classic view

4. Double click folder options

5. Click the view tab

6. Untick the box "hide extensions for known file types"

7. Click apply, then ok.

Once you've done that try importing the .mp4 file into WMM again. By now you should of renamed the extension from .mp4 to .avi. If it doesn't work when you try to import it then in WMM click tools>>>options. On the compatibilaty tab make sure all your codecs are ticked. Then try importing the file again.

Hope this works for you.

And just so you know .mp4 isn't the only file type that I've managed to trick WMM with. I've also tricked WMM with .mov .mkv and .flv. None of them are supported file types but once renamed to .avi they import.

Generally Windows Movie Maker support .asf, .avi, .m1v, .mp2, .mp2v, .mpe, .mpeg, .mpg, .mpv2, .wm, .wmv. If you use Vista it also support .dvr-ms.

So you can convert your video to any of them above, you can use Cucusoft Ultimate Video Converter which can support output almost any audio/video format including Video format(H264, MP4, WMV, AVI, MOV, RM, 3GP, flv, SWF, mpeg-1, mpeg-2, VideoCD, SuperVideoCD, DVD, etc) and Audio format(AC3, AAC, MP2, MP3, MP4, RA, WMA, etc.).

Hope can help you!

Windows Movie Maker can't import .mp4 files, however, you can change .mp4 to raw avi, mpeg-1, or wmv format, then edit in WMM.
