Hi Violet:

My first guess is that you are using a small MacBook laptop or a Mac Mini, with not enough RAM & speed to properly handle the GoPro high-definition video. Like like many home-camcorders, the GoPro Hero's use a highly-compressed form of video to squeeze the HD video signal to fit on the SD card.

But unlike some other camcorders, GoPro also uses their own proprietary "codec" (compressor/decompressor) which takes a lot of computer "horsepower" to handle without glitching.

The GoPro Hero website has a free editing & "transcoding" (conversion) app called CineForm Studio that's available for GoPro owners to download and use with their camera footage. As long as your Mac is using OSX 10.5 or higher, you'll be able to import, edit, and convert your memory card's video files into a .MOV format that your iMovie can better-handle (or you can do all your editing in CineForm Studio).

But, again, if your Mac is lacking in sufficient RAM (at least 2GB), or if you don't turn off all other apps in the background, you still might have glitch-y playback.

hope this helps,

No fixing that Glitch. You see HD video interpolates the Video. This means, in layman terms, it records one frame from the lens assembly, then internal electronics within the camcorder, make the next 6 to 8 frames, then another frame from the lens, then more from the internal electronics within the camcorder, it is this way all the way through the Video It looks like this - where + is lens and > is from internal electronics within the camcorder +>>>>>>+>>>>>>>+>>>>>+>>>>>>>>+>>>>>>+>>>>>>+>>>>>>>>+ and so on.

It would also help if you forgot about Iphoto and imported directly to Imovie. Use Imovies frame Photo tool to extract a Picture, use Iphoto on that

On my MacBook professional in my purposes bar, i'm attempting to open iPhoto. yet, the icon cans a circle with an x "&#ninety two;" dealing with it and when I click it to purpose and open it, it says, "you may't open the utility iPhoto because of the fact this is broken or incomplete." what do i do...
