iMovie will most likely just recognize your camcorder. Mac os x can read almost any format (it's just that they can't always write to it, for example, they can read ntfs but they can't write to it).

Most likely iMovie will import the files and convert them into something that's more easy for the computer to edit. So you'll get a bigger file, and it could take a while before it's done converting the video.

If you are using and iMac you should be just fine. Just connect your camera with its USB and the camera should give you a setting to use with a computer. The Mac will ask if you want to import these vids into iMove. It is easy as that. Edit and burn.

HDD Recording record video onto a built-in hard disk — no tapes or discs to buy. Then, just transfer video to your computer and edit, or burn to a DVD.

Easy searching and random access to video segments.

Take loads of still photos or store over 7 hours of video (actual capacity varies, based on size of hard drive).

import to imovie may need to be decoder, there are so many good converter, just google a one, say http://www.google.com.hk/search?source=ig&hl=en&rlz=1R2SKPB_en&q=iorgsoft+m2ts+video+converter+for+mac&aq=f&aqi=g2g-s1g2g-s1g3g-s1&aql=&oq=&gs_rfai=
