The easy answer to this is that you don't have to worry about what format your camcorder records in, but what you capture it in. When you connect your camcorder to the computer (if you installed proper drivers) you can start capturing them in movie maker. It usually comes in avi or wmv. Then when you are done capturing you save them to your computer as a wmv or avi or mpeg depending on your preference and applications.

windows movie maker is a great tool that lets you save in many different formats and compressions. So conenct your camcorder using a dv cable and start capturing.

Raw DV is all basically the same. The magic of supporting output formats happens in the editor you choose. My personal favourite is Pinnacle Studio because it is so feature rich in therms of editing content and also in its ability to output a plethora of file formats from a single source.

A more appropriate questions might be what output file formats does WMM support. I suspect the list is long and for most of us stuff we'll never use.
