Anybody Know a video converter that works with pinnacle studio 11 plus?

guys i can't import a video in Pinnacle studio 11 plus, because it says something like,,,the "whatever video.avi could not be opened",,WHY?? i have tried a lot of vid converters and it wont work, i downloaded a vid off utube and its FLV format, so i convert this format to avi and still it wont open in pinnacle studio..does anyone know what do i need to do? because i gave up in trying idk wat to do..does anyone know wat i can do to convert this to avi or mpeg and it can be succesfully imported?? i just dont understand why it won't go if its converted to .Avi format :?..is the format invalid or not supported??...
